In order to use Cadence from outside the UD Campus, you will need to use VPN to access the ECE VMs (i.e. cpeg424.ece.udel.edu). If you are in the campus network, then skip the VPN setup.

Follow these steps to setup your off-Campus Cadence access:

1. Download and setup the AnyConnect VPN client software. Please note that Cisco VPN client only supports Windows 7 or higher version OS.
2. As the above site mentions, you will need Google two-factor authentication (2FA) whose code will be the second password in the AnyConnect software. The 2FA code is read from an app that you install on your smartphone.

You can use a VNC client with X11 forwarding over ssh to access the servers. A VNC remote connection is slightly tedious to setup the first time but infinitely more stable than X2Go.

Follow the instructions at X2Go Client to download and install X2Go client.

If for some reason X2Go connect is not working, Windows users can use graphics forwarding over ssh by following the link: SSH X11

Linux and Mac users can use ssh instead of the X2Go client. Mac users will need to install the XQuartz software. Use the following command

 ssh -XY [username]@cpeg424.ece.udel.edu  

• If possible, use an Ethernet LAN connection at home instead of accessing Cadence over the Wireless LAN. Wireless LAN in a dense urban environment offers lower throughput due to interference and due to the protocol overheads. A slow WLAN connection may drop a user session, make remote desktop freeze up, and you may lose your work.
• There are some Ethernet-to-USB adaptors on the market which can be used in laptops that don't have an Ethernet port.
• Please keep saving your work and occasionally take backups using FTP. The ECE IT Admins may reboot the Server every Friday midnight.
